According to the legend told in this area, the mountain was named after a girl with black hair ("Crnokosa") who jumped from the highest rock in order to save her honor while fleeing from the Turks.

"On the surface, the small and low mountain Crnokosa, rises on the southwestern edge of the Kosjerska valley, which, together with the town of Kosjerić, is located on the very southern edge of the Valjevo mountains. Crnokosa is located west of the Skrapež river, between Kosjerić in the north and Požega in the south. On the northwestern side, Crnokosa is almost connected to Drmanovina by a ridge."
