Biography

My name is Marija Spasojević. I am an artist, a seeker of silence, and a guardian of the beauty that rises from within.

My studio is called Feniks – because I believe in renewal. The renewal of the soul, of art, of memory, and of hope.

I don’t see my work as a simple product, but as a prayer in material form, a silent message etched in wood, a fiery trace that remains as a reminder.

In my creative process, I combine pyrography, engraving, calligraphy, and painting – techniques that allow me to express spiritual themes, historical memory, and inner peace on various materials such as wood, glass, paper, and metal.

I am especially devoted to creating pieces inspired by Patriarch Pavle, Serbian saints, national heroes, our great scientists and artists, prayers and quotes – and other themes through which I express my inner world.

???? How did it all begin?

My artistic journey began out of a deep need for silence. In moments of inner struggle, faith, icons, and wood became my refuge. At one point, the flame of the pyrograph became my prayer. I began writing the words I needed to hear – and later, the ones I wanted to share with others.

???? My Inspiration

My deepest inspiration comes from the words of holy people – from the gentleness of Patriarch Pavle, the wisdom of Saint Bishop Nikolaj, from the silence of churches and the forest. Faithfulness to our roots, spirituality, humility, and virtue are themes that always move me.

There is also nature itself – the scent of wood, its age, its texture – everything speaks.

???? About the Technique

All of my work is done by hand. Every line is created with care, prayer, or silence.

I use a pyrograph to "write with fire" — and in other works, I use paint, gold leaf, engraving tools, or a calligraphy pen. Some pieces take hours, others days — because I don’t just want them to look beautiful, but to carry blessing.

???? Workshops and Mission

Besides creating artworks, I also lead art workshops for children and youth.

Through them, I pass on not only techniques, but the spirit — the spirit of creation, respect, prayer, and the knowledge and vision I’ve been given.

I am honored to take part in faith-based and patriotic camps, cultural festivals, and spiritual gatherings.

???? Why "Feniks"?

The phoenix is not just a symbol of rebirth — it is a reminder that we can always begin again. Even when everything seems to be burned down, a spark still glows within us. My work is dedicated to all who are seeking that spark.

Every piece I create is meant to be a small point of light in someone’s home or heart.

???? What You Can Find in My Studio:

Artistic icons and spiritual paintings

Pyrography with quotes from Patriarch Pavle and saints

Calligraphy and handwritten spiritual messages

Decorated objects for everyday use

Unique gifts, wall plaques, and small artworks

???? My Vision

My goal is not just to sell artwork – but to share messages, to bring gentleness, and to awaken what makes us truly human.

Through my work, I try to preserve the memory of great people from our past and present – so they may be honored in the future.

Each piece is an invitation to return to ourselves, to God, and to one another.

If my work touches even a single soul – the purpose is fulfilled.
