The painting Always in the Run shows a vespa in motion. It is inspired by a trip to Italy and created by a photo I took in Padua one evening. Walking the beautiful streets of old Italian towns I found myself captivated by all the bicycles and Vespas rushing around. Especially in the evenings, they would fill the narrow streets with their lights, funky colors and evoke feelings of something romantic and nostalgic.

In this painting, I tried to transfer a little bit of that atmosphere into the work and onto the viewer.
The painting belongs to my ongoing series Landscapes in Motion, which deals with urban landscapes caught in the moments in motion that emphasize today's hectic and hurried life. I often reflect on the arcadian landscapes of the past and realize that their modern counterparts are exactly these busy, blurry cityscapes in contrast to once idyllic green pastures.
I used oil on canvas which I always use for this series because it allows me to work with translucent layers and blur the surfaces, all of which I believe add to the depth of the painting.
