Biography

Snežana Veličković – Academic Painter | Artist Statement (ENGLISH VERSION)

Hello!
My name is Snežana Veličković, I’m an academic painter and a dedicated teacher of fine arts for both children and adults. I live and work in the beautiful city of Belgrade, Serbia, and I truly cannot imagine life without art.

I paint every day, with passion and purpose, always trying to convey positive energy, light, warmth, and emotional depth through my works. I believe that art should inspire, uplift, and remind us of the beauty and meaning in life.

I was born into an artistic family.
I hold a degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cetinje, Montenegro (painting department, class of Professor Dragan Karadžić), and I also studied general linguistics and South Slavic languages at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade.

I am a proud member of both ULUS (Association of Fine Artists of Serbia) and ULUPUDS (Association of Applied Arts Artists and Designers of Serbia).

Throughout the years, I have held many exhibitions and received numerous awards.
Still, I look to the future — driven by optimism, curiosity, and a never-ending stream of ideas waiting to be born through line, color, symbol, and gesture.

My love for drawing, painting, and writing began in early childhood, and it has never faded. I create with the same energy and intensity today.

Sometimes, I don't choose themes — they choose me.
It might be a shape remembered from a childhood dream, a cosmic vision, a symbol, a subconscious image, abstract ornamentation, imaginary architecture, or fantasy.
In all of it lives an insatiable hunger to create.

I am drawn to metaphor and symbol, especially in my drawings, which often emerge spontaneously from the subconscious.
My creativity expands across multiple disciplines — drawing, painting, design, photography, writing, and beyond.

I am deeply devoted to figurative art and believe that a true artist creates not for spectacle, but for self-realization. Art is a spiritual path.

“An artist wraps the world in branches like fingers – to shelter it, to cradle it in the canopy of a more colorful, gentler world. The scent of oil paint on their hands mixes with blossoms, bread, and the raw material of dreams.
I don’t believe in art without soul. I don’t believe in cold installations or provocation for the sake of shock. I believe in talent and labor, in the gift of expression and the dignity of mastery. That excess of beauty — that is what I give everything to.”

Although I accept the existence of contemporary art, I do not find emotional or humanistic value in much of it.
Never before has the standard of what defines an “artist” been so diluted.
