Svarog’s Stone - A story woven into cloth

My new embroidery, "Svarog’s Stone," came from my love for Slavic mythology and a simple wish to bring these ancient symbols back to life. It’s a four-piece set, and all the stories connect so beautifully on the natural cloth. Together, they bring a sense of peace and a really special, grounding energy to a room.

Every single motif was chosen with a purpose-each one holds its own history and meaning:

Alatir: First up is the mythical eight-pointed star. It’s the ultimate foundation stone of the universe. Our ancestors believed this is the exact spot where all life force, light, and energy come from.

The Tree of Life: This one actually grows right out of the Alatir stone, symbolizing constant movement and renewal. Its roots and branches bridge heaven, earth, and the underworld, reminding us of our own roots, health, and a long life. If you look closely at the branches, you’ll see birds. In our tradition, they are the keepers of symbols, messengers of the gods, and a link between earth and sky. People used to believe that birds in the canopy brought good news, protected the home from trouble, and showed the freedom of the human soul reaching for something higher.

The Symbol of Perun & Perun’s Star: The sign of the supreme thunderer, made to carry deep protection. I embroidered this piece to give anyone who keeps it a sense of courage, inner strength, and a quiet shield against anything negative. It also stands guard over the Tree of Life.
